Prompt #25: Tomorrow

-------------------------------

The sun was setting over the hills of Ooo, painting the sky a delightful pinkish orange. The sounds of the day's ending accompanied the subtle sounds of Marceline's bass and Katydid's guitar. Sweets wrappers, ice cream tubs, and empty pop bottles littered the rooftop patio were Finn, Jake, and their friends were resting after a long day of adventuring and hanging out.

It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

"So, what are we doing tomorrow you guys?"

The quiet voice of Princess Bubblegum broke through the white noise littered silence between the friends. Finn lifted his head with a questioning look on his face, looking around at his friends.

"I don't know, what should we do?" Finn asked, jumping up on the coach that he lethargically laying on before.

Silence befell the group of friends as they took a minute to think. What could they do tomorrow?

"Well, I know that I won't be able to hang out tomorrow 'cause Katydid and I got practice to do." chimed in Marceline, pushing her black, flowing hair out of her face.

"I thought that was the day after tomorrow, Marcey?" Katydid asked, shifting her guitar to her back.

"Oh…okay, nevermind then."

Finn turned to Jake who was slowly starting to eat away at the last tub of vanilla ice cream. He looked up and shrugged, his face puffy filled with ice cream. Finn began to worry. He had never thought about planning out what to do the next day, it was always on the fly with what they did. Either going off to save a princess by word of mouth confirmation or sitting around playing Bee-Mo until one of their friends called them up to ask what they were doing.

"Ughhhhh it's so hard to think ahead" Finn said as he fell back onto the couch with a resounding flop, holding his head with his hands, "it's making my head all fuzzy and confused."

Bubblegum giggled at the sight of her young friend. Marceline gave a fang filled smirk as she tugged on Katydid's jean shorts. Katydid turned to Marceline who motioned for her to go over and talk with Finn. Katydid gave an exasperated look and sigh.

Katydid floated over, fixing her red flannel that was tied at her waist, and sat hovering a few inches above the top of the couch.

"You've seriously never planned ahead for anything?" Katydid asked her confused friend.

"Usually I just wake up and do anything that I want." Finn responded, lookin up at his friend, "The only other time that I remember planning ahead was when I went crazy at PB's Science BBQ….aaaannnndddd that didn't end up going too well."

"Ah…well…I see…."

Uncrossing her legs so that her black boots dangled just a few inches above Finn's head, Katydid looked up at the now inky blue sky through her bangs. She gave a sigh as she started to count the newly appearing stars.

"Tomorrow is always a mystery, no matter how you choose to approach it." Katydid said quietly, "Planning ahead just secures something to look forward to. I guess that's why it's always so hard to plan something ahead…you don't know what to do because you don't know what's going to happen."

Katydid looked down to find her friends staring at her with all confused looks.

Jake swallowed the last bit of vanilla ice cream and gave a loud burp. "So, what are we doing tomorrow?"

The silence created before was now filled with laughter as the group of friends rolled around and gripped their sides. Jake looked around confused and asked what he had done, only to have laughter from all of the friends ensue.

The sky was now black and littered with stars as the friends continued to laugh, talk about their day, and play their instruments. Talk about plans for the next day were brought up one more time as the friends began to pack up to leave to their respective places.

"So it never was decided on what we were doing tomorrow, guys." Princess Bubblegum said as she folded up her blanket.

Everyone smiled as they looked around at each other.

"Let's keep it a mystery, guys." Marceline said, draping an arm around Katydid.

Finn gave a small smile before giving a thumbs up to his friends. "Math, guys. See you all tomorrow."

As his friends journeyed off to their homes, Jake walked over and looked up at Finn. "What did Marcey mean by 'keeping it a mystery'?"

Finn's smile got larger as he put an arm around his best friend. "I guess we'll just have to wait until tomorrow, bro. I guess we'll just have to wait."
I got really bored today and decided to write this little one shot fan fiction for Adventure Time
